Is The Brazilian Keratin Treatment Safe

 By Tammie Caldwell

In this day and age people spend a lot of money and time on their appearance. Hair, especially, receives particular attention. A person with well styled hair is a person that goes to some lengths to make sure that there appearances are favourable. It is interesting to note that so many people with straight hair pay money to curl it whilst people with wavy hair spend a fortune to have it straightened. Perhaps that is why the Brazilian keratin treatment has become so popular.

Hair styles have always been important to those that wish to be fashionable. From the earliest days people have spent inordinate amounts of time to arrange their hair according to the latest fashions. Nothing has changed. Hair is still seen as the crown of a person, no doubt about it. In modern times, however, technology and a host of products make it easier to achieve the desired result.

The protein that covers the hair and that protects it against damage is called keratin. It is this substance that proponents of hair straighteners use to promise their clients silky soft, beautiful straight hair. They say that their treatments not only straighten the hair but also feed it and render it more healthy than it was before. And, of course, many women believe this and flock to the salons.

Despite criticism, those who believe in this treatment defend it ferociously. They like the idea that their hair looks the way they want it to look. They like the idea that they are able to change their hair the way they want to. If there is a negative side to the treatment they do not want to know about it. Results count, do they not.

Of course, there are those that says that this treatment is detrimental to the health of the those using this treatment. They say that the treatment not only damages the hair but that it also causes long term negative effects. They say that the hair is left undernourished and that it will suffer broken ends, brittleness and that it will be prone to break.

This treatment has come under attack from several sources, including OSHA. They say that this treatment is harmful, that it not only harms the hair of the clients but that it poses other dangers. They say that hair loss, brittleness and even other health problems are inherent to the treatment. This does not stop people, however. If you want straight hair you want it.

Proponents of this method say that it is a safe, reliable way to treat hair and to make it straight. They certainly have followers. Thousands of women that have had the treatment swear by it. They say that the treatment is safe and that they experience no ill effects. The jury is still out on this issue, however. One fact remains. Women that want their hair straightened will go to great lengths to have it done.

One thing remains certain. Women will always want their hair to be the way fashion dictates. They will straighten it or wave it, depending in the moods of the current fashion. And it is not only women that adhere to the dictates of fashion. Increasingly, men are also prone to fashion prescriptions. And of course there is nothing wrong with that.
